OilCats FAQ

What is box lacrosse?

Box lacrosse is a fast-paced version of lacrosse played indoors or on a smaller enclosed field.

Who can try out?

OilCats is a tryout-only national team for competitive players ages 9 to 17, across five age brackets (U9, U11, U13, U15, U17).

Do I need prior experience to try out?

OilCats is a selection-based team, not an open program — competitive box lacrosse experience is expected. If your player is newer to the sport, Shadow Cats' year-round training program is the recommended starting point.

What happens after I register for tryouts?

A coordinator follows up within 24 hours with tryout details for your player's division. Players are selected based on skill, lacrosse IQ, competitiveness, and commitment.

Where and when are tryouts held?

Dates and locations are shared with registered families as they're finalized. Check the Schedule page or register to be notified directly.

Is there a fee to try out?

No — tryout registration is free. See our Payment Policy for what happens if your player makes the roster.
